OPEN THE DOORS EVEN WIDER
Since the beginning, Misericordia University has been a learning community where all are welcome. The Sisters of Mercy have always understood that talent, creativity, drive and determination are independent of cultural, economic or ethnic backgrounds.
Endowed scholarships—both need- and merit-based—convey to students that we value their aspirations for learning and intellectual growth and seek to minimize financial barriers. This campaign priority is at the very core of our reason for being.
Supporting deserving, motivated, potentially world-changing students is everything to us—and, we trust, to you. Together, we will greatly increase endowment funding and its life-altering outcomes—for all students.
SECURING OUR FUTURE
Strengthening the endowment is imperative to Misericordia’s long-term financial health.
Higher education experts suggest that an institution’s endowment equal twice its annual budget. Misericordia’s endowment is just 35% of the amount suggested. Our goal during the Now for Tomorrow campaign is to raise our endowment to $55 million.
Endowment contributions made through this campaign will remain in the endowment, untouched, forever. Misericordia will use annual income from the endowed gifts to provide scholarships, support faculty and fund academic initiatives.
EMPOWERING STUDENTS THROUGH SCHOLARSHIPS
Additional endowment funds will support merit scholarships to help attract exceptional students, but the majority will be used for need-based financial aid to support well-qualified students who would be unable to afford a Misericordia education.
Almost 99 percent of our students require financial assistance, with the average student receiving scholarships and grants of $11,500, far less than the annual cost to attend. However, almost 50 percent of full-time undergraduates have an unmet need of $20,000. Reaching the goal will allow Misericordia to help additional students.
EMPOWERING FACULTY AND ENHANCING PROGRAMS
THE ART OF SCIENCE OF MENTORSHIP
Great faculty provide the finest education. One of the best ways to enhance the academic quality of Misericordia University is to invest generously in its faculty, who in turn provide an environment where students thrive. To continue to recruit and retain outstanding faculty, we are focused on raising endowment funds that lend support to superior teaching, learning and research.
Endowment funds will support faculty initiatives and innovative programs that enable students to actively collaborate with faculty across all dimensions of learning—in the classroom, in the research lab, across the world through study-abroad/away opportunities and in the community through life-changing service engagement and volunteerism.
